Just a minor possibility of newer engine, you should be able to import all character or meshes, and control code to one of these, and it might make it easier on you all to do updates and thing nicer than what they have been. Here are two possible engines to maybe make thing better and easier for you all .. Just please think about it.... Fully 3d environment , and more functionality...With easier coding , and even coding help rom a large coding community......

WorldForge :

https://sourceforge.net/projects/worldforge/files/

Ryzom :

https://sourceforge.net/projects/ryzom/?source=directory

Even if you don't like these please let me know I have many more ideas, maybe even dumb ones, but I am still trying to help a little bit.

sweldon Worldforge :
Yes. Most of our source code is covered by the GNU General Public Licence (GPL) and everything else is available under a compatible license. A few libraries are released under the LGPL, but we recommend the GPL for libraries too. We only accept code under GPL-compatible licenses. Our art and other content is covered by the disjunction of the GNU Free Documentation License and the GPL. You can, of course, create your own game using our source code and art. Make sure you know what the licenses mean before distributing WorldForge code or art!
ryzom :
License
Ryzom Core is open source and is released under two different licenses. All of the source code is released under the terms of the GNU Affero General Public License 3.0 (GNU/AGPLv3). The vast repository of media is released under the terms of the Creative Commons Attributions-ShareAlike 3.0 (CC-BY-SA).

Any program you develop based on their code must be released under the same licence.
